Camps and Recreation-

Family Camps:  Children's Cancer Connnection provides two family camps every year.  These weekends are opportunities for families touched by childhood cancer to meet and socialize with others in the same boat.  Family camps are great opportunities for families to engage in a “normal” activity, surrounded by others who understand what they feel. They are also great opportunities for families to learn from others, get quality time together, and get a taste of what Camp Heart Connection is like.

Camp Heart Connection Oncology Camp:  Oncology camp provides children with cancer a week of typical camp activities and so much more.  Campers are able to spend time with others who are going through the same emotions as they are.  Returning campers who are off treatment provide hope to our new campers, and nobody has to worry about not fitting in due to scars or hair loss.  Our staff is trained to be sensitive and supportive of all of the campers, and work hard to meet our goals of building confidence, independence, and positive relationships.

Camp Heart Connection Sibling Camp:  Sibling Camp provides siblings of children with cancer the opportunity to be the stars of their own week.  We hear from siblings that they are often put on the “back burner” as the child with cancer receives a lot of attention, and we use sibling camp to make sure they are in the spotlight.  Sibling camp is also a place to share feelings about being shuffled amongst relatives as parents find ways to be present for the child with cancer.  Finally, sibling camp is a safe place for bereaved siblings to meet other kids coping with the same thing.

Mid Year Mini Camp:  Our Mid Year Mini Camp Weekend gives campers the chance to catch up with those friends from camp, as well as children who are new to our programs the chance to jump in without having to wait until summer!  It is a chance for kids to “get away from it all” while enjoying the benefit of being around others who understand what they’re going through!  It is our only program for both survivors and siblings but not parents, so the bonds created are quite unique.  It is also a great time for parents to get some much needed respite.

Family Events:  Children's Cancer Connection provides opportunities for families touched by childhood cancer to be around others who understand what they are going through!  This could be through a trip to a ball game, picnic in the park, holiday celebration, or other outing.  It is our hope that families will make connections with others in a safe, fun setting.
