Message From Our Executive Director

Welcome to our site! We are glad that you found us.

Children's Cancer Connection was established in 1988 to provide programs and services to children battling childhood cancer. Quickly it was obvious that the disease not only affects the child but it also affects the entire family. Our programs and services have grown with that in mind.

“Cancer doesn’t just hurt the person with cancer
                           …It hurts the whole family.”

-John Cornish at age 9 – brother of Danny Joe Cornish, designer of Camp Heart Connection's logo and cancer victim

Today Children's Cancer Connection offers a large variety of programs and services including:

Support Services – ClubHOPE – a family based support group, the Survivorship Connection – a program for young adult survivors of childhood cancer, Family Events, Adopt a Family, and a Lending Library.

Hospital Based Programs – a Craft program for children while they are waiting for treatment, providing toys for the “Poke Box”, hosting “End of Treatment Parties”, the “Family Resource Kit” – a way to manage many aspects of the treatment process, and the Beads for Bravery program- a tactile journal of the treatment process.

Camping Programs and Retreats – A week long residential camp for children that have childhood cancer and survivors, a week long residential camp for siblings, family weekend camps, and specialty retreats.

Our programs and services are offered at little or no cost, and no one is ever turned away because of financial consideration. They are made possible by the generous support of hundreds of individuals as well as numerous service clubs, companies, and foundations. We receive no state or federal funding and are not part of the United Way. Individuals may choose to support us through their workplace giving programs by electing to use the “Donor Choice” option.

We are successful because of the support of more than 25,000 hours of volunteer service every year. Our volunteers serve in many roles. They provide general office help, are program volunteers, child care providers during support groups, and camp staff at every level.

I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about Children's Cancer Connection.

Please enjoy the site and contact us with any questions you have.

Sincerely,

Mark Slocum
