Camp Programs (Summer Camps)
Oncology Camp: June 13 - June 19, 2010
The Heart Connection Children's Cancer Programs operates a weeklong summer camp program for children that have, or have had cancer. Each summer an average of 135 children from around the state of Iowa, as well as western Illinois, southern Minnesota, southeastern South Dakota, and eastern Nebraska attend camp. It is a week of typical camp activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, and field games. The only difference is that all of these children have experienced a life threatening disease.

Sibling Camp: Aug. 15 - Aug. 21, 2010
The Heart Connection Children's Cancer Programs was one of the first organizations to recognize that brothers and sisters of children with cancer have their own special needs. Each summer nearly 160 siblings attend their own special week of camp. While they enjoy the camp activities they share their experiences, their fears, worry, anger, and guilt. Sibling camp is a week that provides the children the limelight that they often miss during their siblings’ treatment. Camp for them is also a place where they find support after the loss of a sibling.
TO APPLY to Oncology Camp or Sibling Camp:
In order to apply for either Oncology Camp or Sibling Camp you must complete the two following components: Camper Application and Camper Health Form. Click on the following links to apply electronically (to our secure site) and obtain the Camper Health Form. You will need to print the Camper Health Form, have your child's doctor fill it out, and have it returned to The Heart Connection. Note: you may need to upload documents such as a copy of an insurance card and the camper's photo.
Application Deadlines: Oncology Camper applications are due NO LATER than May 10, 2010 [deadline extended] and Sibling Camper applications are due NO LATER than June 1, 2010.

Summer Camp Volunteers Staff:
Each year Camp Heart Connection relies on over 150 individual week-long volunteers to provide an excellent camp program for campers touched by childhood cancer. We are currently looking for camp staff to serve in all positions. If you would like to make the difference in the lives of our campers this summer, please consider applying today! Weeklong staff must be a minimum of 16 years old and able to commit to the entire week.
TO APPLY as a Volunteer Staff Member:
In order to apply to volunteer at either the Oncology Camp or Sibling Camp (as a New or Returning Staff member) you must complete the Volunteer Staff Application. NEW STAFF applicants, you'll also need to provide 2 references. Please print 2 copies of the New Staff Reference Form and have them returned to The Heart Connection NO LATER than March 15 for your application to be considered. Note: ALL applicants will need to upload a copy of their insurance card. Click on the following link to apply electronically to our secure site.
